Applicant Review Process

Applications to the Dornsife Global Development Scholars program selection committee go through a three-part application review process.

First review: The Dornsife Global Development Scholars screening committee members will review eligible applications to match applicants with the needs of our World Vision International hosts based on the following:

  • Completion of the program application
  • Good academic standing
  • Alignment with World Vision project focuses
  • Demonstration of relevant experience, knowledge, and skills
  • Ability to connect academic studies with the broader needs of improving health outcomes in resource-limited communities
  • Expressed interest in global health as it relates to World Vision WASH initiatives, as described in the personal statement
  • Demonstrated understanding of various factors (e.g., personal history, family background) that have influenced their perspectives on global health

At the end of this review, applicants will be informed whether they have advanced to the interview phase. Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

Second review: After the interviews, World Vision regional leadership, national directors, and field staff review applications and select the applicants best suited for the available country projects.

If needed, the Dornsife Global Development Scholar Program office will coordinate additional meetings between World Vision and the applicant(s) before identifying the best match(es) for the available World Vision projects. Students can expect that these meetings will consist of a brief conversation or meeting arranged at World Vision’s discretion.

Third review: The Dornsife Global Development Scholars screening committee members will identify the matches between the accepted applicant’s preferred projects and project interests (as identified on the student’s application), and World Vision’s list of preferred student matches (as identified in the second review).

Final decisions on accepted applicants will be based on the matching criteria and overall best fit.

Decisions will be announced in a formal acknowledgement sent to applicants by email before the winter break.

Upon the acceptance of the scholarship offer, Dornsife Scholars will be informed of orientation, mandatory events, and all other information related to the Dornsife Global Development Scholars Program. Before committing to this program, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure there are no financial holds or outstanding tuition bills that would impact the posting of their scholarship via Drexel Central.

All completed applications and application materials must be submitted before the deadline to be considered for the Dornsife Global Development Scholars Program.
